Jacob's Lean

Jan 19, 2025    Julie Lehman

SUMMARY:

Faith invites us to trust in promises already given rather than striving to secure them through our own efforts. Often, we wrestle with challenges and pursue validation or blessings that are already ours, missing the freedom and peace that come from reliance on grace. True fulfillment comes from embracing our identity, trusting provision beyond our control, and living in the abundance of what is freely offered. This perspective challenges the cultural emphasis on self-sufficiency, inviting us to rest, grow, and align our lives with a deeper purpose. Through this, we find strength, hope, and confidence to navigate life with assurance and peace.

QUESTIONS:

What areas of your life feel like a constant struggle or striving for success, approval, or security? How might trusting in God’s promises help you find peace in those areas?

Jacob often tried to control outcomes rather than trust God’s timing. Can you identify a situation where you’ve tried to “help God out”? What would it look like to surrender that situation to Him?

Reflect on the blessings and identity you have been given in Christ (e.g., being chosen, loved, and redeemed). How does embracing these truths challenge the way you view yourself and your circumstances?

In a culture that celebrates self-reliance and constant hustle, how can you intentionally create space to rest in God’s provision and grow deeper in faith through practices like prayer, worship, or community?
