Be Strong and Carry On
SUMMARY:
Encouragement and strength are found in God, particularly in times of discouragement and comparison, as seen in Haggai's message to the Israelites. Haggai called the people to rebuild the temple despite its humble state compared to the grandeur of Solomon’s original. He urged them to be honest, resist the temptation to compare their efforts to the past, and work diligently with confidence that God’s Spirit was with them. True strength is found in faith, persistence, and hope for God's future promises, rather than nostalgia for former glory.
KEY POINTS:
Focus on Obedience, Not Comparison - Haggai 2:3
Haggai addresses the people's discouragement as they remember the temple's former glory and compares it to their current, seemingly inadequate work. He encourages them to remain obedient without comparing their work to the past, focusing instead on faithfully building what God has called them to build now.
Be Strong and Keep Working - Haggai 2:4
God tells the people to "be strong...and work" because His Spirit remains with them. Despite their discouragement, they are reminded to find strength in God’s presence and to keep moving forward with the work He has given them, trusting that He will equip them along the way.
Hope in God’s Promise of Future Glory - Haggai 2:9
God promises that the future glory of the temple will surpass its former glory, filling it with peace. This promise encourages the people to look forward with hope, knowing that their faithful efforts contribute to a future where God’s presence and glory will be fully revealed.
